PROVULDIG2-CM
ABOUT US
The programme entitled New Scenarios of Digital Vulnerability: Media Literacy for an Inclusive Society, PROVULDIG2-CM, Ref.: H2019/HUM-5775, is a combination of institutional endeavour, information dissemination, and research activity carried out by a consortium of six research groups consolidated within the following universities in Madrid: CEU San Pablo University, Rey Juan Carlos University, Complutense University of Madrid, and Villanueva University.
PROVULDIG2-CM, Ref.: H2019/HUM-5775 is a network of researchers who work in the following areas:
- New digital vulnerabilities and instruments to encourage social inclusion of especially vulnerable groups, such as children, adolescents, young adults and the elderly.
- Scientific study focusing on fake news and its influence on the collective construction of reality.
- Analysis of the interaction, discourse, and data related to adolescents in the social media.
- The study of cyber-violence in the Autonomous Region of Madrid.
- Challenges faced by the elderly with regard to political participation in the digital environment.
Background
In a context of the digital transformation of contemporary society, and after years of work on lines of research related to vulnerability among social groups, the PROVULDIG consortium was launched, from which the current PROVULDIG 2 is an outgrowth. Therefore, the most recent precedent of the PROVULDIG 2 consortium is the original PROVULDIG-CM programme (2016-2019, Ref. H2015/HUM3434), of which five of the six groups that comprise the current PROVULDIG-2 were members.
Although the focus of the PROVULDIG consortium has been to analyse the challenges experienced by certain social groups who are particularly vulnerable to digital culture, such as children, adolescents, young people and the elderly, its origins date back to the beginning of the 21st century with the awarding of the National Plan Research Project entitled “Childhood and Television: Children’s Programming and Television Anomie” (1999-2002), coordinated by UCM full professor Javier Fernández del Moral. Other participants in the programme included UCM full professors Luis Núñez Ladevéze and Ricardo Pérez Amat.
For more than a decade, these professors were the Principal Investigators of 4 groups in the current consortium. The move by Professor Núñez Ladevéze to CEU San Pablo University led to the creation of the CEICIN research group at CEU, among other operations carried out. Likewise, the relocation of Professor Pérez Amat to the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos led the creation of the GICOMSOC group.
Having common scientific concerns, these groups eventually formed a network of researchers that resulted in the Coordinated Programme on Children and Television (PROCOTIN, 2008-2011), which was the predecessor of PROVULDIG-CM (2016-2019). The latter, as previously mentioned, is the antecedent to the current PROVULDIG 2 programme (2020-2022).
All of these objectives are aimed at taking action related to social inclusion, protecting minors, promoting audience empowerment through media literacy, and fostering entrepreneurship among youth.
